MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL
The fortnightly meeting of tae ll'ramar 1 Borough Council was held last night. Tho Mayor (Mr. S. M Stono) was jn the chair, and there were alao present, ;/(J(iinci]lor* E. K. Robersshaw, E. Collie, E. J. BarSett, B. Xi. Gardiner, and Mrs. A. M Vicar. ■ The Miramar Eleotors' Association wrote stating that owing to of interest of tho Mlramar residents the association had disbanded. A letter was received, from the •waimari County Council, askiug ihe >:<Hinoll to Bupport a resolution urging the Gov ernment to pTomote legislation to allow the hospital' l-oards to borrow money for permanent buildings, fend that the Government should grant a subsidy on all money so raißed. ; i It was pointed nut that at present when hospital boards wished to raise a loan for the erection of. permanent buildings they had ilrst to get the consent of tho Department of Public Health, The resolution was not eiear yhethcr.it DdvocaUd the practice being discontinued. > • 'Mr Stone impressed the opinion that these loans should be sanctioned ly the local authorities, the people providing the money. Unlesß they tach l.od a representative on the board they hud no say in spending their own money. Ihe amounts which the 'ocal bodies have, to .provide aTe getting larger and larger, and he 'thought that within the next two or three years a complete change in o system would be made. It waß decided in view of the fa<)t that the resolution waß riot clear, to receive it only, but the councillors Beemcdof tho unanimous opinion that a subsidy should be given to boards frorn_ tlie Government.
