ENCOUNTERS WITH BRITISH TROOPS. Constantinople, Juno 20. Soveral encounters occurred between Turkish Nationalists and British, troops in tho district of Ismid. Cable Assn. STRENGTH OF OPPOSING FORCES.. London, June 19. Sir Porcival Phillips telegraphs from Constantinople that the Turkish attack on. the Ismid front was merely a Nationalist demonstration, intended to influence European, opinion, and is unlikely to become a general offensive. The Turkish forces on the whole front from tho Black Sea to opposite GaV.ipoli are calculated to. number 17,500 regulars, and our forces in the vicinity of Constantinople total 20,000. They are mainly Indians, but there are six white bat-talions.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
