THE COAL MINES
THREE UNSETTLED DISPUTES. Meetings of the coal mine owners and the Coal Miners' Federation were held in Wellington yesterday to discuss the disputes that have arisen at several of the mines as to the interpretation of the national -agreement concluded some months ago. Thcro wcro some six disputes to be considered, and it is understood that in three of these disputes the difficulties wero all adjusted. The other three it was not found poßaiblo to settle.
At tho request of tho miners' representatives tho disputes were referred to tho Prime Minister, and the delegates mot the Prime Minister lato in tho afternoon. Mr. Massey made a suggestion to tho assembled delegates for a settlement. The suggestion was at onoe accepted by the owners, but the miners mused to accept it. There tho matter stands at present.
Representatives of the parties are to meet Mr. Massey this morning to discuss the matter further with him.
A STOPPAGE AT HUNTLY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, June 21. The minors at the Extended mine at Huntly did no work to-day. A meeting to discuss union affairs was held yester. day, but as very few men attended it was decided to continue the proceedings in working hours, with the result suited, The miners at Eotowaru ceased work at 2 o'clock this afternoon for the same purpose. It is noteworthy that rho fortnight ending on Friday last was tho first two-weekly period for several montlis during which work at the Extended mine and proceeded without some broken time.
