'.. BOOT-REPAIRING dLASS. The largo Institute building in Tasman Street is fully taxed at the present timo owing to the iargc influx of new members, and • a number of vocational classes for the boys aro now in the course of formation, among them being a boot-repair-ing class far tha lads-who are boarded at the' institute as well as' the- 250 other members. Several wholesale firms-are "assisting in the matter by'.'donating tools and mnteriiL and the class will be under the supervision of a competent instructor. Provision is being made for ten boys to be taught at the ..same time, and after thov havo learnt to repair their own boots
they will be drafted out to ; mako room for others. .Already Borne' forty. Wo have expressed a desire to ,ioin the class, and It Ib hoped to make a start at an early date. The boarding establishment In charge of the matron, Mrs. Wills, has been kept full since it was opened in 1918. There are at present 21 boys in residence, and it is honed at an carlv date that accommodation will bo provided for at least 40. Tho boarding establishment is proving of especial benefit to working bovs. l'referenco is given to orphan boys, sons of fallen soldiers and hoys sent in from the country to learn trades, and these aro bonrded at a very low rate • during the period of. their apprenticeship. The boarders are under the full control of tho instttuto authorities, and every caro is taken to train tho boys to. ho.useful citizens.
