ARBITRATION COURT

CRITICISM BY STORBMEN'S FEDERATION. . By Teleeranli—Press Association. Christchurch, Juno IV. "The Conrt of Arbitration, it Beems, is sadly in need of spring cleaning, as its judgments are very musty, and as the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act provides that this Court shall visit the four chief centres every three months, and as the Court has managed to visit some of the centres only after a lapse of five months, it can truly be said that the go-slow policy is in operation." So runs a paragraph from the annual report presented at the conference of tho Storemen's Federation, now_ silting in Christchurch, delegates being -piescnt from all parts of New Zealand. Another paragraph reads: "With regard to the rapidly rising cost of living in New Zealand, we feel that the present Ccurt has not justified its existence in the lust fow years, as it has only given increases to meet the cost of living which w'ere long overdue, and the workers have lost heavily because of the Lateness of tho Court's action. As to the Jnatter of industrial investigation which the Court should undertake, we have very grave doubts as to the Court's ability to tackle any matter of grave importance.
