THE NEW PARLIAMENT
PRIME MINISTER'S OPINION. "I venture to mako the prediction that the now Parliament will prove its ability and usefulness," remarked the Primo Minister (Right Hon. W. F. Massey) when responding to the toast of "Parliament" at the luncheon given in honour of the British Trade Commissioner (Mr. li. W. DSlton) yesterday, by the New Zealand Association of British Manufacturers and Agents. "I know icany of the new members and the old members, and I honestly believe that this is a good Parliament—from my own political point of view it is the best Parliament of which I have had experience. (Laughter.) I'believo tjie new Pariliament will do its work well and thoroughly, and will justify the confidence that ha 9 been expressed regarding it." Mr. Massey added that he was nonpolitical, lie did not i elong to any pcrty —ho belonged to the country as a whole —but the events of last December had deft him in the position of being the senior member of the House of Representatives. He had been a member of Parliament for a larger number of sesßious than nny other momber in the House, and he expected to see a great many more. (Applause.) He trusted that when the session ended three, four, or five months from now, that they would bo able to Icok back and say that his prediction regarding the new Parliament had been verified. (Applause.)
