SEAMEN'S DISPUTE

THE AGREEMENT SIGNED. The Agreement drafted by the conference which considered the seamen's dispute was approved by all the 'branches of the Seamen's Union, and was signed bv tho parties on Saturday. It is to operate as from January 1 as far as wages and overtime rates we concerned. Some provisions dealing with living conditions aboard steamers will come into effect next month. The important provisions of the new agreement provide for an increase of v;nges by about 30s. a month all round, cud the increase of the overtime rate from 2s. to 2s. Gd. per hour, it is also provided thnt in the event of the Australian seamen securing better conditions timn are now provided in this agreement, tho Dominion scale is to ba brought int<> line.
