OFFICIAL LIST ISSUED LOSS OF CIVIL RIGHTS MEN WHO DID' NOT SERVE In pursuauce of section '8 of the Expeditionary Forces Amendment Apt, , 1918, the Minister of Defence has published in the Gazette a list'of military defaulters. It is notified that the men whoso names appear on tho Military Defaulters' List are subject under the said Act to the following disqualifications and penalties:— 1. They are deprived of civil rights for ten years from December JO, 1918, and are therefore incapable: (a) Of being ap- , pointed to, or of continuing to hold, any office or employment in the service of tho Crown or of any local • or other publio authority; (b) of being elected or appointed, or of continuing to hold, office aa' a. member of either House of Parliament, or-as a member of any local or other publio authority; (c) of being enrolled as an elector or of voting at rn election of members of either Houso ot Parliament or of members of any local or other public authority. 2. If any military defaulter was out oi New Zealand on December 10, 1918, ha ia prohibited for ton years from returning to New Zealand. 3. Military defaulters aro prohibited for ten years from changing "their names; that'is to say, from assuming or using or continuing to assume or use any nanio other than that by which they are <iescribed in the Military Defaulters' Lift. 4. Any military defaulter who commits a breach of any of the foregoing provisions is liablo, on summary conviction, to imprisonment for twelve, months. It is hereby further that, any man wliose liame appears on the Military Defaulters' List may, within three months . after the gazetting of that list, appeal to i a Magistrate in'mnnner prescribed by rer i gulations on tho ground that his name lias been inserted in the list in error.
