JUVENILE COURT
Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., had before him in the Juvenile Court on Saturday sov eral lads charged .with various offences. A nine-year-old lnd pleaded guilty to throwing 'stones at a railway carriage at Ngaio. The lad was cautioned and discharged. Two boys, one fourteen years of ago and the other thirteen years, pleaded guilty to the {heft of is. in money. The elder kd received e. good character. He had, it was stated, a good home, and had done well at school,,having gained his proficiency certificate. The younger 'lad had a record, but the probation officer 6aid that the boy's father was no good, while the mother was obliged to work to keep the family, and could not therefore oxerciso sufficient control over him. The boy was to bo pitied. Ho suggested that the lad should be sent to the country, where he would be 'under control. The younger lad was. formally committed to the Nelson Home, but probation, would be recommonded, the boy to be kept in the probation home until a suitablo place is found for him. The case against the elder lad was adjourned for twelve months, conditionally on his reporting regularly to the probation oflice"r.
Another lnd, thirteen years of ago, pleaded guilty to breaking,,entering, and thoft of 2As., in money and some, trinkets. Tho/polico asked that the lad should be committed to a home, It was stated that ho was living the life of a vagrant. The probation oliieer said (hat the boy had not had a chance, life / had been attending school for the past six years, and there had been no complaints against him. His foster-mother had been very good to him, and was anxious to give him another chance. . The lad was committed to the Boys' Training Farm', Kelson, in the mennwhile to stay at the probation home, pending consideration of probation.
