. Mr. P. V. Prazer, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's.' Court on Saturday: '' Convicted of drunkenness for the third time, Maud Grant was fined 205., in default - seventy-two hours' imprisonment, and a prohibition order was issued against her! Florence Grace Ward, who was before the Court some lime ago on a charge of theft, and who was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, certain conditions being imposed upon tier, was brought before the Court because she had broken her prohibition order, and had failed to report regularly to the Salvation Army. The woman was given the option of going to an inebriates' home or being.sentenced to reformative treatment. She refused, to'go to Pakatoa, and was therefore sentenced to two years' reformative treatment.

The Magistrate held that the evidence showed that there had been an assault, and the defendant said more than lie itnended to say in his excitement. The language, however, was incidental to the 'assault. The defendant was fined 40s. i and costs 12s. for 'committing the assault, i and was convicted and discharged on tho other offence.
