The completion of the Nurses' Home at the Masterton Hospital is being delayed owing to the inability to procure tiles..

The sly-grogger, or "dropper," appears to be becoming extinct, so far as Masiwrton is concerned. Last year only one conviotion was registered for sly grogsell in'g compared with six for tno previous year. Tho erection of the military ward at the Masierton Hospital is being proceeded with as rapidly as the weather and other conditions will permit.

The Masterton police dealt with 1-18 cases in 1918, compared with 152 in .the previous year. Sixty-one arrests for drunkenness were made in Masterton last year. In 1907 the number of arrests for this class of offence was 152. Ono Masterton firm of undertakers had orders for 180 coffins in the month of November. Many of these orders came from the Featherston Camp.

A Masterton rink of bowlers will journey to Pahiatua on Thursday next. The Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club held an evening run on the Masterton Park oval on Thursday. A 220 yds. event was won by F/Butcher, a 410 yds. handicap by E. M'Ewen, and a mile and a half bicycle race by G. M'Ewen. An old resident of Masterton, Mrs. William Dixon (formerly Mrs. Gray, wife of Mr. George Gray, conductor of Gray e Hand, in Wellington), died on Thursday. She leaves a family of eight sons and off daughter The dance organised by tho residents of Clarevillo in aid of the Mayor's Relief Fund proved very successful. Music was supplied by Mr. W. Robinsoh, Clareville, and extras were contributed by Misses Tlayes, F. Osborne, Messrs. Prout, S. Ilcrrick, Repe, and W. Bridge. Mr. Archie Hawke was M.0., and also secretary to the committee.. During the evening .Mr-. G. Hughan, Mayor of Carterton, thanked the promoters for the efforts on behalf of tho relief fund.
