CITY COUNCILLORS AT VARIANCE.
In the course of his remarks on the subject of the congestion of houses «iu people in some parts of Wellington, Councillor George Frost, fresh trom the hustings, staled that during the past fortnight he hod been kept busy "sheltering the City Council." The phrase "ripped the attention of Councillor .T. L. I'itzgerald, who up till that time had not participated iu the debate. "Councillor Frost says' that, for the past two weeks he has been sheltering the City Council," said Councillor Fitzgerald. "'How daro you! The vanity of the man! How dare you say you've been sheltering the council! Wo don't want you to shelter us. We've nothing to hide! It's too preposterous!" Councillor Frost, . in replying, said something to the effect that Councillor Fitzgerald's sarcastic remarks were due to his being on the other side. "The other side," said Councillor Fitzgerald; "well, I'm on the winning side, if that's what you mean.''
