NOT IN VAIN
A MESSAGE FROM THE ARMY ABROAD. The Minister of Defence (Sir James Allen) has received from General Godler the following, telegram in ieply to his message of congratulation on the cessation of hostilities:— "On behalf of all New Zealanders who are now solving, and Ilioso who have served in this great struggle for' our King and Empire, and the freedom of the world, 1 vhank you sincerely for your stirring message, which has' been circulated amongst nil ranks. We thank Clod for giving us and our Allies si> great and complete a victory, and .we thank ihe people of New Keitlnnd for their appreciation of our effort and for their continuous s>upport i ami sympathy. We are iiroud to have fought with the great and gallant armies of France and UreSt Britain, to whom the greatest share of victory is due. Our first thoughts will ever bo to those comrades who have consecrated the soil of France, Belgium, Gallipoli, and Palestine, and to their relatives, who we trust will be consoled by tVo fact that the lives of these heioes have not been given in vain."
