SOUTHERN MARKETS
By Telegraph— Press Association. Christchuroh, October 18. The Australian wheat that has been delivered to North Canterbury millers is costing them 6s. 4Jd. per bushel nt the mill. This is 3d. per bushel better than was first expected, a reduction having been obtained by the regulations with the Wheat Controller. The condition of the wheat is on the whole very ■' satisfactory, only n small percentage showing damage by the mill, and no weevily grain has been found. There is no locally-grown wheat, offering, mid oats are likewise scarce. There is still a demand for prime oatshcaf chaff at late rales. There is not much business doing in potatoes. Buyers ore not very keen to make purchases; and at the same time, those growers who have stocks are holding firmly. The price now offered is £10 Bs. to £10 os. at country stations. Melbourne reports that the market is steady owing to the prospect of improved freight conditions,
and this may mean that space is being found for further supplies for New Zeaiand.
