The Stock Exchange in very cheerful, the outstanding feature being this afternoon's advance of Consols tb £62 55., which Bome attribute to buying by bankers. in neutral countries. Several arrnamont and explosive stocks aro noticeably weakening. MONEY MABKET The Bank of England discount rate on January 12, 1917, was 51 per cent. On April 5 it was reduced to 5 per cent., at which figure it has since stood. OPEN MARKET EATES. The open market discount rate for three .months' billß ia 3J nor coit... as comnan'd with i\ per cent, last week and 43 per cent, last year. Short loans are quoted at 3J per cent., as against 35 per cent, last -week and 41 cont. last year. COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. Wheat.—Unchanged; a quantity of Australian is on passage, parcels of which were quoted at 795. fid. Flour.—Unchanged. ■ Oats, Peas, and Beans.—Active demand and limited supplies; prices hardening. Sugar—Granulated, 575. 9d. Butter—Supplies diminishing. It is understood that negotiations for the nurchase of the colonial output are approaching completion. Cheese.—Fairly plentiful.
