BILLIARDS
Two really fine games were played at Alcock's rooms last night. The first was between Dinnison (G.P.O. - Pastimes Club) and Eautu (Masterton), and at times both players showed to advantage. Rautu in particular showed spasms of real brilliancy, playing difficult shots and playing them wellthen, in the next moment, ho failed at shots which should not be missed. Dinnison is the first contestant from the G.P.O. to win his game. This game ended: Dinnison 300, Hautu 262.
Tho next game was between veteran John Key and Fred Shortt, of Palmerston North. Key is' a very old Crystalate player, .and, judging from the skill ho showed last night, ho is as good as ever ho was. Shortt neven* got going at all, and displayed billiards that must ho quite foreign to him. Over and over again he was faced by sheer bad luck, i
Tho best breaks in the evening were: Key, 37, 37, 23, 20. Rautu, 23. Dinuison, 36, 24. To-night at 7 o'clock Mead plays Hamilton. At 8.30 Bait plays Congdon. '
