Mr. ■ J. Daniels (Secretary of the Navy), in a speech at a banquet in honour of the Argentine and Brazilian Navies, said: "Thero will always be friendship between the United Statos and the Argentine and Brazil. The United States will eonstract its navy until it is the greatest in the world. The United States does not want more territory, but it will continue sending ships to Europe until n, just and lasting peaco lias b.een achieved. Admiral 'Mahan tells us that no nation has a great navy unless it has a great mercliant marine. We shall have a merchant marine' larp;e enough to ensure that our ships will sail to every port in South America."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
