WEATHER STILL BITTERLY COLD. By Telegraph-Press •Association Christchurch, July 25. Thcro was a light fall of snow this morning, following the heavy rain overnight, mill the weather remains bitterly cold, without any signs of clearing. Thero aro still interruptions in the train service on the Midland and Little "River lines. It is doubtful whether communication by ran with Arthur's Pass will lie restored this week, and it will .be some days before the washout oil the I,lltie Kiver line is repaired.
The electrical supply from Lake Coleridge is now normal on the two main transmission lines and the branch lines that radiate from Christchurch. Permanent repa.rs to replaco all the temporary ones effected during the big storm are proceeding expeditiously, and are. expected to 1)3 completed by tho end of the week.
The bootmakers experienced a great boom in busings on Monday mid Tuesday, and inquiries showed that never before had there boen such a persistent demand. -Stocks of goloshes were soon denleted in many businesses and thero was also a great demand for rubber Quite a number of people have had a bad run in the matter of coal, for, apart from (he shortness of supplies, delivery was not carried out early in tho week, and instances have come under notice of people being left fireless. Lake Forsyth is higher than for many years, and communication with Akaroij overland is almost cut off. The road near Little River is several feet under water, and snow is still very deep on the Akaroa road. The mails are being pacKed on draught horses.
