SOME OF THE DIFFICULTIES. Tlio matter of supplies of wood foi butter boxes was referred to by Mr. T. W. Foster (chairman) at tho annual meeting of the South Island Dairy Association of New Zealand. Inquiries had been made on tho West Coast in regard to setting up a mill. There existed n difficulty in the matter of shipping faci!i : ties, however. Tho executive had ttlsu made inquiries in Southland, wherethere were ample supplies of beech trees. Experiments were being conductcd as tv •the suitability of that class of timber If they were satisfactory it would prove very beneficial for the industry. Difliculty was being experienced in seeming white pine, as it was so mixed with other trees in the bush. Tho Prime Minister had stated some time ago that unless sawmillers made supplies to dairy ing ond freezing companies he would stop the export of white pine altogether.
