The Trentham team played with bolter combination than Hie homo selection, and their heavier weight was another factor in their favour. The game became very dull at this stage, neither side showing to much advantage. Tho sun going down gave Wellington a, better opportunity, and they commenced a vigorous offensive, with the result flint Trentham'had to farce down. CANTERBURY DEFEATED BY 'VARSITY.
Playing as ,1 curtain-raiser to Hie big match at Athletic Park. Victoria University College met Canterbury College, Tho 'Varsitv players were- manifestly superior to tho visitors, and won by -10 points to li. . , Tries were obtained for 'Varsity by Luslc (3), Barker CI), Pope (2), M. Smith fiiifl Gillespie. Converting goals wore kicked by Scott (2), O'llegan, Lusk, and Barker. Jackson scored two tries for Canterbury. Mr. E. Perry had oharge of tho same.
BANKERS AT PLAY
At tho Duppa Street Reserve yesterday afternoon bank clerks and. their friends were in possession of tho ground, tho occasion being a friendly gamo of Rugby by teams representing the Bank of New Zealand and the Combined Banks. From the kick-off Bank of N.Z. made the gamo lively, and they were early rewarded, for Gray crossed the. lino and ohiccil his side in credit three j:oints. Tho Combined Banks wero equal to the task of squaring accounts, and after a vigorous attack B. Turner (Commercial Bank) got over, but tlio major pomi* were not scored, and half-time ended
with the scores equal. The second spell saw quite a number of weary players trying to infuse a littlo "go" into the -.':i'mo. After soino uninteresting play N. Condor, the Hank of N.Z. captain, after a short, dodgy run, just got over tho line. Tho kick at goal failed, 'tho Combined Banks now livened up and bills slid cheques, ledgers and exchange played their hardest, and kept Dank of N.Z. defending close to the line. Eventually R. Wylie (Commercial) crossed the line. Tho try was not converted. Tho gamo ended soon afterwards, with six points to the credit of each team.

Thpr was a largo attendance, Tho gamo resulted in a win for Hawko's Bay by lfi to 3. Henderson scored a try for the visitors, and Cogswell, Gilford, Ryan, and .Varna srorcd for the winners, two of tho tries being converted by.Peri. The game was fast ind evenly contested.
