STILL NOT SATISFIED

Sir,—ln his reply to the Second Division League the Acting Price Minister (Sir James Allen) is reported to have said that the Government was in most cases providing for the workinginan's family more liberally (cadging for votes) than he could do betoro enlistment. But what about tho man who could provide more liberally before enlistment? lie is conveniently forgotten, and if questioned our versatile Minister would reply; "Ho should'have saved." 'But his expenses have-only beeu in proportion to his income; he is placed in a watertight compartment with a good 'stout door,to it. Meanwhile, wo are advised to go lo the Financial Assistance Board; -which is looked upon as n charitable institution, and which the pride of most families will prevent them from availing themselves of. Are the members of thb Government trusting to this aspect to savo tho country expense? If not, why not grant the extra 3s. ? Those reservists wboso circumstances were such as not to require the extra 3s. could notifythe Department. If the Acting PrimeMinister (Sir James Allen) and the members of_tho Cabinet honestly believo tho provision made for the wives and families of Teservists is sufficient, let them forego their salaries and try living on the amount themselves. They will then be able to • speak ' from experience, and as we all know "an ounce of experience is worth a pound of theory."—l am, etc., ' P. SPENCER.
