Following upon this comes the news of a proposed amalgamation of all the New 1 Zealand companies engaged in the manufacture of cement. Jt is ' understood that 'a preliminary understanding has been arrived at between the New Zealand Cement Company, Wilson's Portland Cement Company and the owners of the assets of the Dominion Cement Company (in linuidation). Negotiations are also proceeding with the Golden Bay Cement Company, of Wellington, with a view to amalgamation. A meeting to discuss the proposed move is to be held in. Auckland next week.
