There are at present eleven diphtheria patients in the Masterton Hospital. The Masterton patriotic shop was reopened on Saturday, the proceeds being in aid of the Red Cross funds. A party of Mauriceville residents who made the trip over the Tararua ranges took six days to reach Tokomaru. They shot a number of wild pigs and shags. ' For the first time for a. number of years the Masterton circuit is not- represented at the Methodist Conference. At the annual meeting of the Masterton Chess Club, Mr. F. W. Hummer was elected president, and Mr. S. W. Mooro vice-president. Mr. R. J. Foss, formerly of the Fernridge School, and late of Carterton, has been appointed headmaster of the Eketahuna District High School, in succession to Mr. W. N. The death occurred on Friday v of Hilda Maudo, the fifteen-year-old daughter of Mr. Reginald Pinhey. Household soap is the latest commodity to show a substantial increase in price in Masterton. Seventeen births, five deaths, and five marriages were registered in Masterton for the month of February The Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board has merely "received" a letter from the Greytown Borough Council, urging that old-age pensioners in board institutions be permitted to retain a portion of the pensions as pocket money. A committee has been set up by the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard to report upon the question of making provision for infections diseases cases at Pahiatua. Practically no provision has been made at the Masterton Hospital for the extinguishing of tires. Tlio matter is being inquired into by the Hospital Board.
