WAR-TIME BIRTHS AND DEATHS
BRITISH STATISTICS FOR. 1916. London, February 21. The Registrar-General's statistics for 1916 have been issued. They show the lowest birth and death-rates and almost the lowest marriage-rate on record. The marriage-rate of widows was the highest for tliirjy years. Births exceeded deaths by 2/7,303, excluding war fatalities, which are believed to be much under these figures. The German figures for the same period were: Births, 1,103,000; deaths, 1,331,000, practically excluding war fatalities.— Aus.-iS T .Z. Cable Assn.
