" TRIALS WINS PRESIDENT'S HAXDIOAP. By Telesraph—Press Association. Hastings, January 1. There was fino weather and a large attendanco for tho Hawke'a Bay Meeting. The sum of £26,270, as against £19,361 last year, was put through the totalieator. The racing throughout was particularly good. Results:— MAIDEN HACK HANDICAP, of ICO sovs. Six furlongs. Powder King assuming command, followed by Dusky Eve and Oro Ore. This was the order along the hack stretch, where Dusky Eve supplanted Powder King and Kahumangu also moved Tip. Mr. Gampbell's gelding led into the straight, but wae soon overhauled by Altercation, who came through fast and won by a length, two lengths between .second and third. Time, 2min. lOsec.
