Sir James Allen arrived in Christchurch from Dunedin on Monday evening. He ivas to revisit Dunedin lxiforo returning to Wellington.
Tho transfer of Mr. J. Miller, of the Justico Department, Dunedin, to Masterton, is annotinced. The new position he is to take up is Clerk of the Court.
Sergeant P. Neilson, of Mauricovillc, who was in the Wellington Mounted Rifles, lias received his discharge from the Expeditionary Force, in order to take a commission in the Royal Flying Corps.
Sergeant J. Burridgo, brother of Mr. H. M. Burridge, Dannevirke, was "gassed" during recent operations on tho Western front, this being the third occasion on which he lias been incapacitated, having twite previously been wounded.
Mr. Richard MullhoUand,'.formerly, of the Post and Telegraph Department, died at Norsewood last Saturday in his 74th year. Ho came out to New Zealand 50 yoars. ago and had been a resident of Norsewood for the past ten years. He is survived by a widow and family of one daughter and four sons, two of whom are on active service, and a third goes into camp next month.
Major D. J. Gibbs, who lias received tho D.5.0., is a son of Mr. James Gibbs, Turnbull Street, and was on the sesretariar staff of the Wellington Harbour' Board. Immediately on the outbreak of war ho placed his services at tho disposal of liis country, and left with the First Contingent for Samoa.. Ho returned a few months Inter, and left as military commander of one of tho transports conveying the Fifth Contingent to Gallipoli, where he served till the evacuation. Some months ago he ivas mentioned in dispatches.
Major J. Macintosh Bell, of the Canadian Highlanders, formerly Chief of the Geological Survey in New Zenland, was wounded in France, and, after recovering in England, was appointed for special service in Russia, where he was early in November^ At the recent examinations in connection with tho Melbourne Collego of Divinity, which holds a charter to grant degrees and diplomas in theology, tl.-o Rev. A. C. Randerson, M.A., Dunedin, Tossed the first B.D. examination in all tha subjects, and the Rev. .1. Gumming, Ml.. 8.D., Khandallah, obtained postreduction honours in New Testament language and literature.
