LOWER HUTT BOROUGH
'MEETING OE THE COUNCIL,
The last meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council for this year was held on Thursday. The-Mayor (Mr. 'H. Baldwin) presided, end there were also present: Councillors .1. M'Dougall, AY. 0. Meldrum. W. Walton', J. Brasell, W. Cotton, W. Kerr, H. A."Ward, A. Hohbs, and S. G. Clendon. Mr. F. vie Glere wrote asking whethei the council would Rive him. the assurance that when it was decided, to'erect municipal offices lie would bo employcd as architect or whether the transaction sliould be terminated, in which case lie could send in liis account fox pencil plans supplied, the charge bein" H l' er CGllt - on estimated c 0 . After a. desultory conversation ill which it was held that the counei. could not commit any future counci to the erection of municipal offices, it was decided to apooint a committee, consisting of Councillors Ward M'Dougall, and Hobbs, to interview Mr. Clere 011 the ■ subject. ' The balance-sheet submitted by the secretary of the Hutt Park Committee for the vear ended March dl. '■•'■i/' showed receipts amounting to £196 los. and a credit balance, of £lo 3s. Bd. W. G. Everest wrote in reference to rates 011 his father's property,, the amount due being over £90. It wn< resolved to replv that the .council:MUld not agree to the suggestion matte 1.-J the .writer. ~ When the pronosal for renewing the licence of the King George's Theatre came up there was a long discussion cii the dangers of fire and earthquake, and it was held that there were no sufficient exits, and it was that there should be exits on the opposite side to the entrance to the theatre. Inspector Hugo in 1911 re ported that it was necessary for satetj to have two exits each (tt. wide, or the east side of the hm di.ng. 0n th< motion of Councillor M Dougall it va resolved that a licence for tlnee months he granted, and that tiie owner of the theatre ho called upon to pro vide the exits as suggested by,lnspector Hugo; also that the licensees attention be called to the necessity fo. keeping' the aisles clear during the screening of pictures. The Borough Engineer (Mr. \V • • ■Roche) reported that the -worst of tn holes in the footway r»f tlio Bridge had been repaired, but the tim Tier was so much decayed that new holes developed as .fast as repmrf could be effected. He suggested thai tlif< decking of the rootwav should 1 entirely renewed. The hatlun? shed Riverbank was reported to be completed.
