ORGAN RECITAL
The City Organist (Mr. Bernard Page) gave tlio last organ ' ecital of the year in tho Town Hall last night. Tim programme, wliich had been delected from the lighter music, consisted for tho most part of compositions that had pleased audiences particularly at the earlier concerts of the season. It opened with a sonata by Bovowski, a typical piece of work full of feeling. Then camn Cesar Franck's leautiful "Prayer," wTiiok was heard for the first time in "Wellington a few weeks ago. Tho Scherzo (Op. 70), l,y Hofmatui, was followed by the ileasant "Suito Aiio'°nne" (Holloway). This suite, modelled on the earlier stylo of organ music, Ifas a choral prelude that suggests n plain song melody, and it passes through dance and duet movements to a iinalo written in the form of a fiiguo. Lemaro'a "Summer Sketclios," consisting of five-parts, ''Dawn," ''The Bee," "The Cuckoo," "Twilight," antl "Evening," was another very graceful number, and thn programme was brought to a closo with fichimiiinn's Fuguo on tho Name of Bach (No. 6), one of the most powerful of the composor's studies.
