DESTROYING THE GERMAN TRADE OCTOPUS
BLOW AT ENEMY'S METAL ORGANISATION.
London, December 4
In the House of Commous Sir Albert Stanley (President of the Board of Trade), in moving the second reading of the Non-ferrous Metal Industry Bill, said the measure was necessary in order to prevent German interests ever again obtaining the death grasp on vital industries which the control of metals before the war gave them. Owing to German dominanco wo suffered great embarrassment at the outbreak of the war. Tho Bill would remain in operation for five years after the war. Mr. J. M. Henderson (Labour) moved tbo rejection of tho Bill. He said it was untrue that the Germans controlled the principal metals. Tho Bill was due to intense fear or jealousy, or something worse, and amounted to an economic boycott. America would never consent to it.
There was considerable; opposition to tho Bill, members objecting to Government control of industries. The debate was adjourned— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
