SHARING THE RISKS
HOME AND OVERSEAS CASUAL-
TIBS COMPARED,
Facts and figures ae to the respective share a'jid risks of troops from homo and from overseas (says Reuter) show that the casualties in the four series of battles on the Somme, around Arras and Ypres, and at Messines, speak for themselves. They are as follow:— . Divisions engaged. Casualties per division DoMother- min- Mother- Do-
land. ions. land. minions. Somme .... 5 to 1 5 to 4 Arraß 3J, to 1 7 to 6 Ypres ... Vto 1 5 to 1 Jteasines ... 2to 1 11 to 13
Taking this series of battles as a whole, the casualties among the troops of the Motherland have been proportionately higher than among the Dominion troops. The evidence points to the fighting having been shared very equally between tho available troops, irrespective of the part of the British Empire from which they come. The Motherland troops engaged greatlv exceed in number those from the Dominions, and this was only to be expected, considering that the respective white populations are as 3 to 1.
