KARORI AFFAIRS

MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL. Tho Major (Mr. B. G. H. Bum) presided over tho regular meoting of the Karori Borough Council, held last evening. Councillors Skegg, Tingey, Lower, Henderson, Mackenzie, Dryden, and Bradnock were present. Tho Health Inspector reported a caso of diphtheria in the borough. The Wellington City Council, m reply to representations made regarding the spread of fennel into the borough, advised the Karori council that fennel had already been declared a noxious weed under the Noxious Weeds Act, 1908. A copv-of the bulletin issued'weekly bv the Tramways Department of the City Council was received. It contained the following announcement: "On and from Monday, November 26, the stop for all 'in' cars will be at Quinton's corner, instead of at Molesworth Street." . The Legal Committee had no report to make upon the proposal to amalgamate, tho borough with the city, as no indication had been given by tho burgesses that they desired amalgamation. , It was understood that the committee's attitude would be i\o bar to later action in the matter. Councillor Skegg said ho understood that residents in .the borough were being asked to sign a petition for amalgamation. He would like to see de- . finite terms formulated before amalgamation was carried out. Tho matter was allowed to drop for the time being. The Public Work's Committee recommended that the Borough Engineer lie instructed to undertake the formation of a playground at the Karon State School, the State School Comnntteo oaying tlie cost; also that District Nurse Walton's ronuest for permission to use the nark for a picnic to poor children of Wellington he granted.. The recommendations were adopted. _
