The mesMge stated that a man named William Frederick Eggers enlisted from Weßtland in tha Main Body of the ExpeditionaiY Fore©, became batman to Lieutenant-Col-onel Stewart, deserted on the evo of the departure of tho force, and wrote subsequently. fltnting that he had been imprisoned on Somes Island, and asking for tho Teturn nf two revolvers which ho had left with his kit. _ A Dominion reporter made inquiries at Base Records yesterday, and ascertained that there is no record there of a man named William Frederick Eggers, or any man with n. similar name, having joined the Main Body. A deserter, in any case, would not have been imprisoned on Somes Island, ivhich is reserved for tho reception of interned enemy alions.
