The "Daily Chronicle's" Petrograd correspondent, summarising the position on Monday, states that the Provisional Government lacks sufficient forces to maintain office, and the Bolsheviki have not sufficient to exert authority. Both sides are awaiting reinforcements. The Bolsheviki on Sunday besieged and captured four military training schools end the Telephono Exchange. The Bolsheviki had previously armed thousands of young and undisciplined factory workers, forming them into so-called "Red Guards," capable of any atrocities. They massacred batches of captured Cadets with tho utmost brutality. Three Cadets were tramplod to death during tho battle for the Telephono Exchange, and their bodies were left in tho 6treet. Tho crowds which captured ono of the schools, where tho defondors had used all their ammunition, shouted: "Chop them up!' Frenzied sailors tore some of tho Cadots to pieces. Riflo firo was heard everywhere in tho city. An armoured car, containing an inexperienced Bolshevik crew, plunged headlong into tho river. Piold guns wore used against the Cadets who defended a school for 60ven hours; a hoavior gun eventually broke the walls. Tho survivors narrowly escaped beine lynched. Many were thrown into the river. There were eight hundred casualties, on, Sunday.
