NOTES AND COMMENTS

TBY GLBNCOE.I Owners arc reminded that entries for all events at the Aehnursi Meeting-dote at 9 o'clock to-night. it is nrubablo iua.l tho new owner of Snub will give iho Martian gelding a ehauco to earn distinction over fences next winter. .Mrs. M. A. Perry, of Crissoge., will next season enter the rank of owners, and will race in lior own name under her late lather's colours. The iirst horse to carry her livery will be a full-brother to Simonirtes. a lull-brother to Elocution, and a ijL-iiliu(j by Demosthenes lrom *;tona. Mr. Arthur Malison, who lias accepted the secretaryship of the Mauawatu Trotting Club, vice Mr. W. M'Keuzie, resigned, takes a. kceh interest in all classes ot sport, says a Palmersto'n North' writer. His appointment is favourably commented unon by the light harness snorting folk, and it is the opinion that tbcre will be nothing left wanting on his part in bringing the young club in line with Wangamii and other clubs. T. Quinlivuu went south last evening with Jlendra and Pontoon. The latter, who is to contest the C.J.O. Welcome Stakes, was shin sore after racing at Trenthans. Ho seems to be on the improve, and may bo at Ms best by November 5. Advices - from the somn state that Karen, winner of the Dunedin Guineas, lightened u» a lot, after tho race, and at. present her trainer is unablo to do much with her. Since his failures at Trontharo, Hendra has gone out of favour somewhat for the New Zealand Cup. Tho Royal Artillery gelding seems to be a horse well uc to any weight, but he may not be class enough for a New Zealand Cup. A race like the Otaio Plate under welter weights would Euit, him better, but this year .that race is missing from tho programme. Though lie has been highly spoken ol for some time, Wrestler has only won a couplo of small races. The Antagonist colt' won ■ a Maiden Handicap et Wanganul last year, and was not successful again till he scored in a hack race at Eangiora on Monday. He is in the Stewards' Handicap, for which ho has plenty of admirers. An exchango states that apparently all is not well with Mr C. D. Greenwood'! Welcome Stakes candidate Gloaming, ai h6 has done little work since before tho Dunedin Meeting. The race that, Snub had at Rangiora appears to ba-ve sharpened him up, and should improve his Cup prospects. Arrangements have been made for C. Emer son to have the mount on Martian's tin luclcy son. On hiß return from the Dunedin Meet ing, Gamecock developed leg trouble, an<i he has had to he eased up. This may prevent him fulfilling engagements at next month's meeting. A Press Association teleeram from Ohristchurch states that Trials, Sweet Tipnerary, Po-ddington Green, and Greta have been scratched for all engagement! at the Canterbury Jockey Club's Meeting.
