9 — ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members of Wesley Church was held on Wednesday in. Wesley Hall, Taranaki Street. The Eev. J. G. Chapman presided, supported by Messrs. W. E. Redstone and E. Chindun, stewards, and Ihero was a very lair at- j tendance of members. After the singing of the Doxology, the ohairjnau said that the church was setting more democratic every year, and' he pointed out that doiv llio congregation had the privilege of appointing its own church officials cxcept the circuit stewards. Conference had rested in the local chuii'ch the responsibility of electing its own officials, and that privilege they would exercise that evening. He hoped Conference would go further and give to the congregation the privilege of selecting the minister they desired to minister lo their spiritual requirements; at present Uiat privilege was vested in the officials, but the officials did not always represent the wishes of the congregation. The right of the congregation in this respect would no doubt be recognised in time. Mr. W. E. "Redstone, senior circuit steward, said there was na report, lo present, but the balance-sheet for the year ended September 30, 1017, showed receipts .£llll 17s. 6d.. of which .t'GSO was obtained in church collections, ior home and foreign missions .£395 Is. 3d. Tho expenditure 'amounted to -t1312 18s. 9d., of which ,£351 was spent on foreign missions, and -£if> on homo missions (for port year only). , . Chapman to continue his ministry in Wesley ChiM-ch for the eighth year in succession. The reverend gentleman feelingly returned thanks for the coniidenco expressed In him. .
