ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Tho fifteenth annual conference of the New Zealand Employei-3 , Federation, was held in the federation's rooms, Customhouse Quay, yesterday, under the preeidency of "Mr. T. Shailer AVeston. The following delegates were present:—Auckland, Messrs; Albert Spencer, W. J. Jaggs, and E. A. Craig; Hawke'a Bay, Messrs. E. M. Chadwick and W. P. Mitchell (secretary); New Plymouth, Mr. W. F. Brooking; Wangniyi!, Messrs. G. Caiman and A. Weekes (secretary); Manawatu, Messrs. C. N. Clausen, G. F. Johnston, and W..M'Kenzie (secretary); Wnirarapa, Mr. C. A. Tabuteau (secretary); Wellington, Messrs. W. J. Thompson, P. Christie, A. C. Mitchell, and W. Gronfell (secretary); Canterbury, Messrs. J. B. Hayward, Albert Kaye, W. Morley, A. W. Beaven, and H. Brcadhead (actins-sec-letnry); Otago, Messrs. F. W. Mitchell, G. Simpson, C. A. Sliiel, and A. S. Cooksou (secretary); Southland, Messrs. W. Kiddell and F. A. Knight); New Zealand Federation of Master Plumbers (Mr. W. Judd); New Zealand Master Printers' Association (Mr. H. Conll); trustees, Messrs. W. H. Bennett and A. B. Pearce; ex-presidents, Messrs. T. Ballinger and W. Hopkirk. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted as follows :-]?resident, Mr. X. Shniler Weaton; vice-president, Mr. T. Ballingei-j treasurer, Air. H. Coull; Parliamentary Committee, members of the Advisory Board and Messrs. S. S: Kirkcaldie, J. Beverklge, H. i\ Allen, C. N. Cathie, J. Godber, and S. C. Baion; auditor, Mr. W. C. Stephens; Finance Committee, president, vice-president, and treasurer of federation, and presidents of. Auckland, Wellington, Otago.-Southland, and Manawatu Associations, and Mcesrs. W. Hopkirk, E. A. Craig, - Haywardj and - Kaye.

Resolutions Passed. The following resolutions were passed: "That this federation is of opinion that the time has arrived when a closer relationship should exist between the employers' organisations and tho trades and labour councils of Nex Zealand tliau has hitherto been the case."

"That there are many matters of mutual interest, such as the advancement and protection of the trade of the Dominion, the opening of new industries, and the employment of returned soldieis whiok might be deliberated upon, and joint steps taken with a view to carrypractical schemes into effect." "That theso matters are o£ sufficient importance to warrant oareM consideration at tho hands of local associations, and that they be referred thereto and recommendations be then sent to the Advisory Board, who will collate suoli reports and if necessary a special meeting of the federation be held to consider same."

"That this conference protest most tigoroasly against the action o£ the Government in connection, with euburoan trains. Inquiries have shown that fin evening train can be pat on with praotically little or no extra labour, and tnat by running such trains the Dominion would be still further helping to wiu the war." "That this meeting places on record its appreciation of Mr. T. Shuiler Weston s services to the federation during the :'■ ur years he has acted as president, :wd Mpeoially during tho harassing time experienced in the course of the last twelve months. His unremitting attention, to tiie duties pertaining to the office, hie valuable assistance due to his legal knowledge, and his unfailing courtesy to all Who have been associated with him in the work of the federation make it a matter lor congratulation that lie has allowed himself to be elected for a further term. The meeting pledges itself to aid him in the performance of his duties In every May possible during tne eneuing year." A voto of thanks to the Advi3ory Board, secretary and staff of the federation for thoir services during the past year concluded the business of tho meeting.
