SECOND DIVISION
FIRST BALLOT. Monday, October 29, is looked on r.s the probable date of the first Second Division ballot. Tim first class to be called will be married men without children. ' The numbers in the various classes of the Second Division as on September 22 have now been officially computed by tho Government Statistician (Mr. Malcolm Fraser) as follow:— Class A (married men without children) 20,331 Class B (married men with one child) 21.507 Class C (married men with two children) ; 2i,523 Class D (married men with three. children) ..., 17,253 Class E (married men with four ohililren) ; 10,498 Class F (married men with five or more children 11,320 Total 106,131 It is considered probable that with accretions of First Division men 'through coming of age and the voluntary enlistment of Souths of 19 each of the firstthree classes will prove sufficient for three ballots. iTlus, however, applies more so to Classes B and C than to Class Class 'V may have 3000 or 4000 more men in it. than estimated above. Many mon made their cards read: Married, two dependants," and bo on; "he tenn "dependants" is ambiguous and where tho authorities are m douibfc the man has been temporarily placed m Class A, and advised of the fact, so that he can send a correction if one is needed. Where it is found that there are not sufficient men remaining m a class for a ballot, these men will be called .ip in bloc by Gazette without a ballot, bv ensuring that men in the preceding cfass are all called up before those in the nest succeeding class.
