RAILWAY TRAVELLING

SYSTEM OP BOOKING SEATS.

The Wellington Chamber, of Commerce suggested to the Railway Department recently that passengers should bs permitted to select their seats vhen. booking at the Central Booking Office.. The General Manager has - replied:— "A certain modification of the system originally devised " has been approved, which , permits of selection within limits as regard seats in first-class cars* but it is desirable under the restricted tiroet«blo to have all cars fully occupied, and the total abolition of the practice of allotting seats in numerical order is not considered advisable, as it would t?nd to complicate the Department's arrangements." _
