LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

4 ... . NOTIFYING UNFIT RESERVISTS A.EEASONABLE BEQUEST. Sir,—ln your issue of Monday, September ii, appeared a correspondent's letter re the uncertainties and the derangements of business to which C' 2 men are at present subject.. You appended a footnote to that letter in which you say:— "Wherever possible, that is to say, whoreever there is any .degree of certainty as to a, man's permanent unfitness for active military service, the Government should make the fnetr known to the individual so situated." You deserve.thanks tor that note, and I think, you should stress the point (re notification) upon those in authority. In doing 60, you would bo acting in the public interest, because the present stalo of uncertainty is acting against public efficiency, and is hindering men from putting their full weight and energy into efficient work and undertakings. Some weeks ago you published a comniendably clear and concise statement as to the Te-examination of C 2 men. Specially selected medical officers were to pronounce judgment, on the "papers" of C 2 men, throw out the hopelessly "unfit," and pass on to a special medical board tho names of those to be re-examined.

Now, I cannot see why, immediately judgment was pronounced on tho papers of those hopelessly "unfits," the interested men were not at once notified, and thus relievo them of the uncertainty at present hampering them in their domestic and business ties. The keener their desire to be "into it" the greater their linsottlement. and therefore the greater loss in their civic •efficiency. Once o, man knows he has no hopo of going he can knuckle down to his home duties. Thanking you, sir,—l nm, etc., NOT NOTIFIED.
