MAGISTRATE'S COURT
JDIjB AND BISOEDEBLr. Mr. S. B. M/Carthy, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, and heard, the police caseß. A sentence of threo months' imprisonment was imposed on Minnio Eichardson, who was convicted of being an idle nnd disorderly person in that shw possessed insufficient lawful means of support. According to Inspector Marsack accused was found at an early hour yesterday morning in a stack of timber on tho reclaimed land.
John Jones, an elderly man. also charged with being idlo and disorderly in that ho was without sufficient lawful means of support, a.sked for an order to bo mado sending him to the- Old Men's Home. Inspoctor'Marsack said Jones was discovered sitting in a doorway in Tory Street, and when taken to tho look-up ho was found to be in a very dirty condition and covered with vermin. Accused was remanded for a week for inquiries to be made.
Henry Wilsou was also brought np as an idle and disorderly person- without lawful meanß of support. In this caso Inspector Marsack stated that tho man was Buffering from tho effects of a. drinking hout, and asked for a remand for a week so that accused might receive medical attention, which was granted. A further remand to September 17 was granted in the case of William Kllam, charged with, assaulting in a railway carriage Peter Moult so as' to cause him actual bodily harm. Bail was allowed as previously. , ' For insobriety, two first offenders were each fined 10s., in default 24 hours' imprisonment, and another was fined 205., with the alternative of 48 hours' imprisonment Two others (women) were convicted and ordered lo como up for sentence when called upon.
MAINTENANCE CASES. In respect, to maintenance cases ordera were made as under:— Fob disobeying a maintenance order .Tamos Brown was sentenced to a. month a imprisonment, warrant not to issue until applied for by complainant. Charles Henderson, whose an-ears totalled £66 6s. Brt., was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, warrant to bo suspended so long as ho pays £2 is. AA. petmonth in respect to two children who are in a State institution, and also pays Its. per month, off tho arrears. An order to pay 2s. 6d. per week for tho maintenance of a children was made againac John Puller. John Martin Gillespie was ordered to pay In. 3d. per week for each of three inmates of tho Boys' Training Farm, I> Olson. _ An order to pay £5 15s. arrears of maintenance, in default seven days' imprisonment, was made against Frank M.'Maljpn, the -warrant not to be issued until applied for by complainant. _ In the case of Mary O'Brien v. Michael O'Brien, a separation order with custody of iha children, was made and maintenance* flied at 255. per week. Millie Perrin was granted maintenance at the rate of 25b. per week, the defendant in the case being Frederick Eichard Woodley Perrin. • James Henry Bray t. J. Williamson, a claim for maintenance in respect of twa girls, an order was made for tho payment of sb. per week for each child, ana £50 towards past maintenance.
