THE NAVY LEAGUE
MEETING OF WELLINGTON BRANCH COMMiITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Wellington Branch of tho Navy Leagno was held at the league's office on Tuesday afternoon. There were present': Sir. J. B. Harcourt (chairman), Colonel Campbell, Messrs. C. K. Smith, C. AV. I'almor, Barry Keesing, It;. DaiToch, W. Foster, Mcsdames Hall'J'liompsou, Jii'adney-'Williams, C. E. Kichardson. Strs. Hiill-Tliompson presented the prizes donated by 'the Hon. Arthur At. Myers to the successful competitors for an essay on the British Navy • duringtho great war. ■ ,A letter was received from His Excellency the Earl of Liverpool forwarding a book entitled "Tho Navy Book of Fairy Tales," two copies of which have been sent out by Admiral Sir Arthur T?arquhur to be disposed of in aid of the lioynl Naval and Marine Orphan Homes at Portsmouth, Plymouth, and the Nore. Twelve copies have been signed by tho two principal commanders at the Battle of Jutland—Sir John Jelikoe and Sir David Beatty—and two of them have been forwarded to New Zealand. His Excellency has placed one volume for disposal in the North Island and one in the South. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. C. B. Smith, I{. Darroch, and \V' I'oster was set up to make arrangements for the disposal of the one for the North Island.

Contributions have been received Iron) a number ot country districts, and it is expected that another 1000 or 1500 new garments will be available before Hie end of the month. At present ISO garments for boys and sivls ore heiiig made by the school's, mid, together with the other articles, will be forwarded to Ensland as opportunity oilers. . • The Education Sub-eqmmiUec- reported that the Wellington College had been visit.ed> during the month by Captain Tlnll-Thoiiipson and Mr. C. J. Parr, who delivered addresses to the assembled school. Arrangements are being made to form branches at Kilbirnie, Mount Cool;, and Knrorii Addresses will be given to the scholars at these schools during the present month. It was decided 'to write to the Education Board pointing out the work which the leagueis doing by inculcating a patriotic spirit iu scholars attending public schools." It was agreed that patriotic demonstrations shouW be held in honour of Nelson Day, and a programme committee was set, up. Mr. Robert Parker has kindly olfwed to conduct the chorus of school children to provide items in connection with the demonstration.
