Press Association telegrams to hand show that the earthquake was felt all over the Wellington and Hawkc's Bay provinces, and was particularly severe around Napier, Hastings, and Dannevirke, although 110 damage of any consequence occurred., A Dannevirke' message states that at Titreo Point nine shakes* were, experienced, six within half an hour. Lovin had two shocks, 0110 being tho "heaviest for years past." No damage was done by a severe shock at Foxton. A severe earthquake was felt at Woodville at 3.20, several slight shocks following. No material damage was done. The gas supply was cut off for an hour.There is a big.slip in the gorge, which delayed railway traffic. Severest Quake for a Decade, The earthquake was of exceptional severity at Pahiatua. Buildings rocked violently, and there were several smaller shakes at intervals up to 5 o'clock. The direction appeared to be from north to south. Chimneys were razed to the ground, windows and glass doors were broken, brick walls suffered, and lavatory cisterns were emptied. Articles m private houses and business places wore smashed. Palmcrston North was shaken by the severest earthquake-for a decade," and five smallor 'quakes, but 110 damage was done.
