COLD STORAGE
FOR OUR SURPLUS PRODUCTS.
The Government is taking steps to assist freezing companies in some way to provide increased cold storage spa'co to accommddate surplus produce during next season. A question was asked in the i House of. Representatives on the matter yesterday: Mr. G. J. Anderson (Mataura) asked the Minister of Agriculture what steps the Government intended to take to ensure that there was ample storage for any' surplus production of cheeso and meat during next season, in view of tho prospect or a shortage of insulated steamer space. He understood that the Efficiency Board had mado recommendations which would prevent all possibility of loss on account of lack of shipping.
Mr. Mac Donald said that the question had been before the Government for some weeks. It was true that the Efficiency Board, the Board of Trade, and the Requisitions Committeo had made certain recommendations to the Government. The matter bad been before the Prime Minister for somo days, and that day arrangements had been made with tho Wellington Harbour Board to provide space for from 45,000 to 50,000 crates of cheese. A conference had been arranged of representatives of all tho freezing companies in the Dominion who had power sufficient to permit of increase in cold storage capacity. This conference would consider the question, fully, with a view of arriving at a decision in tho endeavour to provide space for tho requirements of the country.
