THE ACT OF UNION

LIBERAL VIGILANCE. The rumours of dissensions in the Cabinet which were referred to in the House of Representatives on Tuesday provided quite an exciting topic for discussion in tho lobbies yesterday, and many and varied were tho views expressed on the present outlook. A meeting of Liberal members was held to consider tho situation. Those who were present aro very reticent regarding the proceedings. They are particular to explain that the conference was not a caucus, but a general meeting £f the party. At the outset the meeting affirmed its fidelity to the National Government, but it was made clear that this did not mean that tho Liberals were satisfied with the Cabinet as at present contributed. The meeting decided to set up a committee of five—a sort of vigilance committee-— to act as candid critics of the Government.
