MILITARY SERVICE BOARD
YESTERDAY'S APPEALS. The Third Wellington Military Service Board sat in Wellington yesicruay. Tho board consists of Mr. H. J. lieswick, chairman; ill- M. J. Hack, a.y. TAt. A, O'L. Oonsidine. Captain Baldwin is tho military representative. 'Pile employers of John Harold Maskery, cash register mechanic, appealed for his exemption. The appeal was dismissed, tlio board granting leave till September 19. Decision in the case o£ Francis Walter Sanders, clicker, of Jfefforsoii Street, Brooklyn, was reserved till to-day. Tho appeal ol William Allen, cabinetmarker, of Lower Hutt, was adjourned to tho first sitting in August. An appeal was made by tho Wellington Oity Corporation for Arthur Joseph Giddens, second electrician at tho Tramway Power flouso Tho board dismissed the appeal, but granted leave till August 22. . Th appeals of James Hawkins ond William Carroll, Salvation Army officers, wero adjourned sine die. The decision will be reviewed before the Second Division is called up. Albert James Barlow, military bodgo maker, of Jackjjrjn Street, Potonc, was granted fourteen days' leave, to bo taken in October. The Commissioner of Police appealed for the exemption of tho following police-men-.-James ■ Smyth (Auckland), John Nash (Oisborno), Oeorgo Nealo (Newtown), Christopher Charles Wadgo (InvorcargiU), James Frederick Webster (Dunedin), Nathaniel Gordon (Christchurch), Allan J. B. Adams (Westport), Henry Sargent (Auckland), Harry A. Laing (Newtown), Patrick O'Donoghue (ChristchuTch). All tho oases were adjourned sine die. An appeal Uy the Inspector of Prisons for George Lawric, warder, of Auckland, was similarly dealt with. . ~ Tho appeal of Frederick David l.raid, master plumber, of Wilson Street, was adjourned for a month. The board dismissed tho appeal made by tha employer of Ernest Maxwell Jones, shopman, of Brooklyn. Mr. If. J. Beardon appeared in support of tho appeals of two slaughtermen, Hrnest 0. Wilkinson and William Tancred. Tho board adjourned the cases awo die. The appeal of James Dempsey, fireman, of Richmond Street, Fetonc, and the appeal of his employer also, were dismissed. G. H. Smith, pork butcher, of Courtenay Place, was granted leave till tho November draft goes into camp. . N. H. Mackie, clerk and district valuer, Levin, was granted leave till October 1/. The board adjourned till 10 a.m. to-day.
