— c LONG DISTANCE SWIMMING CERTIFICATES. On Thursday evoning last 150 of'the members assembled at tha Boys' Institute to witness tlie presentation of long distance swimming (certificates -which have been won. Mr. A. M. Farnall, secretary of the Wellington Amateur Swimming Association, presented 92 certificates, and in doing so complimented the members of the institute in establishing what he thought was a record for New Zealand, viz., cne school or institution gaining 92 certificates' in one year. He also pointed out that the 92 boys were attending school, and that about CO or 70 working boys had also qualified for long distance certificates. Ho urged the boys who could not swim to avail themselves of the fino opportunity they had of being taught swimming in the institute baths, pointing out that swimming was one of the cleanest and healthiest of recreations.
