WAR FUNDS
THE MAYOR'S ACTIVITIES.
Tho Mayor of "Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke, C.M.G.) has issued in pamphlet form a statement of accounts dealing with the moneys that ho has handled for the various war funds up to March 31, 1917, The record is .one- of hard work and successful achievement, and Mr. Luke takes tho opportunity to thank his many assistants, and also to thank "all contributors for their geneross response, both in money and goods, to the various appeals made by me for promoting the welfare of our soldiers and sailors and their dependants; for assisting worthy and necessitous cases arising out of tho many incidents duo to the war; for extending tho hospitality of the citizens to soldiers and sailors leaving for the war; and for receptions to the sick and wounded upon their return to the Dominion."
No fewer than twenty funds are mentioned in the statement of accounts, nnd the total amount of money handled has been in the neighbourhood of .£55,000.
