SUNDAY GOLF
Sir,—V'oiir correspondent. Alexander Wal.ors, knows perfectly well that tho City Council was equally divided on. the question of moving for legislation for power to enforce Sabbath observance on a section of the community. Tho Mayor exercised his casting vote lo decide the council's altitude, and in doing so must take full responsibility for the internal strife that he thereby set in motion. Unfortunately there is an extremist, element on the council that c-an bo set dancing lo any tune the Presbyterian leaders care to fiddle. Fortunately there is another element, that believes in justice and moderation, and tho great body of citizens, are looking to them to uphold in this case the traditions of freedom that have grown with the British nation and for which our brave soldiers are fighting now. Alexander Waters, says that he is "sorry to hnvotostate that we have, a large number of his '"Kelburn's") class who would bring any ration or community to destruction in a few years if they were allowed full scope to carry out their ideas." In saying this your correspondent, meaning only to bo bitter and.rude, has accidentally spoken a great truth, for the class to which I am proud to belong-the broad-minded and liberal sportsmen—are . busy now in France bringing to destruction that community of child-murdering Huns, the German nation. Meantime Alexander Waters and his kind prate about "keeping them in the best path for them to go." One would be inclined to Tesent such insolence if it were not so utterly ludicrous. Another correspondent ("Get to the Root of It") speaks in grandiloquent terms of Holy Writ, the Prince of Darkness, and the Prince of Light, and suggests the possibility of a discussion on thp question of Sunday golf "when we come liefore Jehovah's awful Throne." He says that there will be no talk heard there, about sports, "wowsers," narrowne.vs, and intolerance. .May I suggest that neither will there be talk of Sabbath observance, m- anti-racing, or six o'clock closing? May I also remind him that it is written that Whoso iudgeth another condemneth himself,. and that he take heed thereof lest his 'way after this life be by tho method of progression suggested by his nom de plume.—l am, etc., KELBU.RN.
