Single ship owning has been found to be lamentably wanting m the Old Country. Probably the best-managed line in the United Kingdom consisting oF singleowned vessels was that managed °bv Messrs. Burrcll and Son with the "Straths," butsingleship-owning concerns do not stand the test of time, as they become swallowed by merging with the bigger companies. This has happened in dozens of cases recently at Home, the high prices being obtained for tonnago 1 being the incentive to sell. Your correspondent gives us a vision—mostly visionary. What I want is to have control of something that isn't visionary, but is here.—l am, etc., A. FREEMAN. June 18.
