A ROMANTIC SEQUEL

ECHO OF A CAUSE CELEBRE. London, Juno 12. A romantic sequel to tho caso of Lieutenant Cameron, who was sentenced to imprisonment . for three years as the outcome of the "necklaco caso" in Edinburgh in 1911, has become known. Ho was released on a ticket-of-leave before the war, and was •employed in important Staff work for which a largo knowledge of European languages was essential. The King has now issued a free pardon as a reward for his war services, and the French Government decorated Lieutenant Cameron. • In 1914 a thousand officers, including Lord Cromer and Lord Roberts, petitioned tho King to pardon Lieutenant Cameron, . believing that he kept silence _to shield his wife, wlip made a confession declaring her husband's innocence. Lord Kitchener therefore allowed him to join •the Army. [Lieutenant Cecil Aylmer Cameron, Royal Field Artillery, and his wife Ruby wore charged in tho High Conrt of Justiciary, Edinburgh; with fraudulently tempting to obtain .£6500 insurance on a pearl necklace insured at Lloyd's. On February 8, 1911, the male prisoner informed the uolice that his wife had been robbed of the necklace while looking in a shop window. _ It was alleged/however, by the prosecution that the necklace insured had been obtained by Mrs. Cameron on approbation, from a firm of jewellers in Regent Street and afterwards returned, and that the story of tho robbery was untrue. Both prisoners were found guilty, and sentenced to three years' imprisonment.]
